Daal is a basic lentil vegetable, made with lentils cooked in a curry or soup-like consistency, with aromatics such as onions, tomatoes and other spices. Daal is one such dish. Which contains a lot of protein.


There are many different types of pulses-

Dal Chawal

  • chopped yellow moong dal
  • chopped Orange Masoor Dal 
  • chopped Green Moong Dal
  • chopped Black Urad Dal
  • chopped Chana Dal/ Bengal Gram Dal
  • chopped White Urad Dal
  • chopped Toor Dal

Component for Dal Chawal:

  • 1 cup lentils (you can use any of these like masoor dal, toor dal or moong dal)
  • take 1 cup basmati rice
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
  • Take 2 cloves of garlic which has to be finely chopped
  • Take a 1 inch piece of ginger and grate it
  • 1 green chili which has to be cut
  • Take 1 teaspoon cumin
  • Take 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • Take 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • add salt as per taste
  • take 2 tbsp oil
  • add 2 teaspoons coriander powder

INSTRUCTIONS For Dal Chawal:-

  • Wash the dal well, after washing, soak the lentils in water for 30 minutes. After this, wash it thoroughly once again and after washing, remove the water from it.
  • Take a pressure cooker, pour 2-3 cups of water in it and add dal in it, cook till 1 whistle i.e. boil till dal becomes soft.
  • After the lentils are cooked, add a glass of water to it and mix.
  • Take a separate pan, heat oil on low flame, then add cumin seeds, then add 1-2 chilies, then add curry leaves and let it fry for a while (up to 1 minute), then add crushed red chilies.
  • After this, add finely chopped onion to it and cook till it becomes golden. If you have already fried onions then you will have to cook the onions for 2-3 minutes.
  • After this add ginger/garlic paste (you can fry it before adding onions) and cook well for a few minutes until the rawness goes away and see that it does not burn. If it starts burning, you can add two tablespoons of water. Now you have to add all the spices and it will become Bahujan. Therefore
  • Add all the powdered spices and cook for 2-3 minutes, taking care not to stick them. You can add water if needed.
  • After this, add tomatoes to it, mix well and let it cook for 4-5 minutes.
    Now add boiled lentils to it and mix.
  • After this, cook on low flame for 15 minutes, so that all the flavors get mixed together. If you want, you can also dilute it by adding water to the dal.
  • Put chopped coriander on top so that sweetness comes in the drink.

How To Cook Rice-

Take rice according to your family, we are taking 1 cup basmati rice with 1 cup dal, now they have to be washed thoroughly. Keep in mind that wash the rice thoroughly 2-3 times, so that whatever excess pebbles or soil may be removed from it.
After that take a cooker, put rice in it, on high flame, add 4 cups of water with salt and boil till 2 whistles.
